SEND support vs an EHCP: What's the difference?
One of the most common questions parents ask is:
"Does my child need an EHCP?"
The answer depends on the level of support your child needs.
Many children receive excellent support without ever having an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
What is SEND support?
SEND Support is the additional help schools provide for children with special educational needs.
It is funded from the school's own budget and does not require an EHCP.
Support might include:

What is an EHCP?
An Education, Health and Care Plan is a legal document prepared by the local authority.

Unlike SEND Support, an EHCP is legally enforceable.

Does every child with SEND Need an EHCP?
No. Many children make excellent progress through SEND Support alone.
An EHCP is usually considered when a child's needs are significant and cannot reasonably be met through the school's existing resources.
